Technology
Carbon8 Contracting Ltd promote the use of Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT), together with more proprietary treatment technologies for the treatment of waste materials.
Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) is a patented advanced treatment process, which utilises Carbon Dioxide to impart enhanced physical and chemical properties on problem waste materials. The ACT process produces materials of real value, including aggregates from ashes soils from sludges. The process consumes Carbon Dioxide gas to forms solid cement, binding the material together, retaining contaminants, and enhancing handling properties.
ACT can be used in both on-site and off-site operations and can be integrated into existing industrial processes.
The advantages of ACT
- Rapid treatment in a matter of minutes, whereas traditional stabilisation processes may take weeks or even months.
- Carbon Dioxide is permanently bound in solid form;
- Carbon Dioxide is sequestered;
- The immobilisation of many contaminants, particularly heavy metals, rendering the material permanently non-hazardous or inert;
- The product exhibits improved geotechnical properties;
- ACT treats contaminated soil and waste to provide a rapid cost-effective solution for:
- Industrial waste recycling and re-use
- Pre-treatment of waste streams prior to disposal
- Brownfield land remediation and development
- Industrial waste recycling and re-use
- Industrial waste and soils can be made into a range of products for construction:
- Aggregates
- Engineering Fills
- Granular and Powder Fillers
- Aggregates
ACT applications
ACT has been used to successfully treat a wide range of wastes and soils including:
- Metal Drosses
- Paper Incineration Ashes
- Municipal Incineration Ashes
- Soil Washing Residues
- Oil Drill Cuttings
- Thermal Desorption Residues
- Cement Dusts
- Bone Ashes
- Contaminated Land Wastes
